About Henna

Henna for body art is a paste made from the crushed leaves of the Henna plant, mixed with essential aromatic oils and lemon juice. The paste is applied either with a rolled cone or a small bottle fitted with a fine tip. The henna artist draws designs on the skin, which is left to stain the skin for several hours. After the dried paste is removed, the resulting orange stain darkens to a shade from deep brown to burgundy black, depending on the location. The final color is revealed after about 48 hours.

Natural henna is the only safe product for body art. So- called “black henna” is made with harsh chemicals added to a henna base, often PPD, a dangerous dye that can cause severe allergic reactions and cause scarring. All henna artists listed here pledge to use only all-natural henna, and never black chemicals for their art.
